What Are Veneers?

You might be wondering, what exactly are veneers anyway? The most basic
description of veneers is that they are a thin layer of material that is placed over the
front or visible part of the tooth. The purpose of this is to make the tooth look more
aesthetically pleasing and appear to have a more classic tooth shape. The material
used for veneers varies and can affect the overall cost as well.

Types of veneers include:

• Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain Veneers are the strongest and longest-lasting
material, but they are also typically the most expensive.
• Composite Veneers: Composite veneers are strong, well-working material and
less expensive than porcelain but they don’t last as long and can be prone to
stains.

• Lumineers: Lumineers are a brand of veneers made of a very thin porcelain
laminate material, and are a little less expensive than porcelain but have a shorter
lifespan and can be more prone to breaking and damage.

• Removable/Temporary Veneers: Removable, or temporary, veneers are a very
cheap option and are typically involve an impression kit that you can do at home
and then mail out and receive veneers that can be popped in and out.

Who Do Veneers Work Best For?

Since veneers are used to improve the appearance of teeth, they are typically best for
anyone who has a tooth, or multiple teeth, that doesn’t appear as it should. This could
be due to injury, tooth decay, or any other event that has caused the tooth to be
misshapen, broken, crooked, discolored, or in some way not correct cosmetically.
Talking with your dentist about your concerns or desire for veneers should always be
your first step, and at Mohip Dental we are happy to walk you through the various
options for veneers and discuss which would work best for your needs.

So, How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The cost of veneers ranges, and is largely dependent upon the material you choose
and how many teeth need veneers on them. Typically, veneers cost anywhere from
$400-$2,500 per tooth, which is a large range. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover
veneers as they are considered a cosmetic procedure, and are not medically
necessary. There can be additional costs aside from the actual procedure of putting
veneers on the teeth. Depending on the severity of your case, there can be additional
costs surrounding other procedures needed to make sure your tooth, or teeth, are
ready for veneers.
